Mission
CalTrout‘s mission is to protect and restore wild trout, native steelhead and the waters they inhabit throughout California, and to create high quality angling opportunities for the public to enjoy. Although great fishing has been restored, protected, or made possible by much of our work, CalTrout is not a fishing club or organization. Quality angling is an outcome of our primary focus: to improve the health of the state’s watersheds, rivers and lakes.
How Your Donation Helps
California Trout is headquartered in San Francisco with satellite offices in the Eastern Sierra, Mount Shasta, North Coast, Northern Sierra, and Southern California areas.
California Trout’s decisions and recommendations are not driven by popular opinion but by sound scientific rationale based on collaborative relationships with UC Davis, Stanford, UC Santa Barbara and University of Nevada Reno.
Strong collaborative relationships with local, regional and national partners help strengthen California Trout’s position and accomplish our goals.
With a decade-long history of regional conservation offices, CalTrout is intimately familiar with local issues and challenges, and thus is positioned to drive and implement well-founded solutions.
This approach enables California Trout to:
- Advocate and drive federal, state and regional water and fish legislation and policy
- Use existing law to monitor, implement and litigate, if necessary
- Implement large-scale, regional fish habitat restoration projects
