Mission

The people of the United Methodist Church (UMC) are a covenant community – dedicated to God’s work and making disciples for Jesus Christ. The United Methodist Church was formed with the merger of the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church in 1968. United Methodists trace their spiritual heritage back to the 18th-century evangelical leaders John and Charles Wesley, Jacob Albright and Philip William Otterbein.

How Your Donation Helps

Today the task of United Methodist Church of Westlake Village, our joyful mission, is to empower people everywhere to find their voices as they search for active participation in the decisions that affect them. Church leaders strive to help everyone find a Christ-centered place of refuge and protection in a covenant community of deep faith and purpose.
People of faith and people who are searching for answers to life’s tough questions are all welcome. They love worship, study of God’s word, music, church suppers and a sense of community, a sense of belonging. In life’s clouds of doubt and division, we see the sunlight of God’s purpose that brings healing, hope and harmony.

Mission

Project Second Chance (PSC), the Contra Costa County Library Adult Literacy Program, offers free, confidential, one-on-one basic literacy instruction to people who read or write below the 6th grade level. Students are over 16 years of age, out of high school, and speak English well enough to communicate over the telephone and in person. While many PSC students are native English speakers, many others are non-native English speakers who can benefit from tutoring sessions that are conducted in English.

How Your Donation Helps

It is estimated that one in five adults in California struggles with reading, such that they would be unable to handle basic literacy tasks. Project Second Chance was founded in 1984 to help tackle this problem. Since that time, PSC has helped more than 5,400 county residents develop skills to read to their children, vote, advance at work, write to family and friends, read the newspaper, follow directions, acquire their high school diploma, and perhaps most significantly of all, feel better about themselves.

Mission

PAWS is dedicated to the protection of performing animals, to providing sanctuary to abused, abandoned and retired captive wildlife, to enforcing the best standards of care for all captive wildlife, to the preservation of wild species and their habitat and to promoting public education about captive wildlife issues.

How Your Donation Helps

The Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) was founded in 1985 by Hollywood animal trainer and author, Pat Derby, and her partner, Ed Stewart. PAWS is the only animal welfare society dedicated to the rescue of performing and exotic animals from cruel confinement and performances of pain. Among our greatest concerns are the treatment of animals in circuses, animal acts, television and movies, as well as the problem of excess captive breeding, inadequate standards for captive wildlife and the exotic animal trade.
The Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) captive wildlife sanctuaries are places where abandoned, abused, or retired performing animals and victims of the exotic animal trade can live in peace and dignity. For more than 25 years PAWS has been at the forefront of efforts to rescue and provide appropriate, humane sanctuary for animals who have been the victims of the exotic and performing animal trades.
PAWS investigates reports of abused performing and exotic animals, documents cruelty and assists in investigations and prosecutions by regulatory agencies to alleviate the suffering of captive wildlife.

Mission

The overall mission for the Survivor’s Memorial Fund is to reach the $1,000,000.00 mark so SMF may be able to give a one time grant disbursement of $10,000. This one time grant disbursement provides immediate financial support and assistance to the families of ALL California Law Enforcement Officers who have been killed in the line of duty.
Thus far, over 180 families have received assistance from this fund.
*It is also important to note that each grant is often delivered to the family of a fallen officer within 24 hours.*
Officers put their lives on the line everyday, and thankfully many go on to see a well deserved retirement.
Sadly, a fallen officer will never have a such a retirement.
A fallen officer will never see their children grow, to share special memories with their spouse, to be able to hug a parent, or simply just to enjoy what you and I have at this moment—LIFE.

How Your Donation Helps

What is the Survivor’s Memorial Fund?
Tragically, each and every year, in the State of California, ten to twenty law enforcement officers lose their lives in the line of duty. The survivors of our fallen officers have informed us that the family’s immediate financial need is for funds to cover food, travel, lodging and burial expenses. Insurance and pensions are not received until many months after the death of their loved one.
Due to the unforeseen expenses resulting from the untimely loss of a law enforcement loved one, the California Narcotic Officer’s Association has established a “Survivor’s Memorial Fund” to help subsidize these expenses. It is our opinion that this immediate financial assistance is vital to the well being of the family members during the shocking first days following the death of an officer.
The next time you watch television or listen to the radio and learn that a police officer has been killed, this Memorial Fund will already be in the process of making an immediate contribution to the family. Since its inception, the Fund has assisted more than 180 families in their time of need.

Mission

Chabad-Lubavitch is a philosophy, a movement, and an organization. It is considered to be the most dynamic force in Jewish life today. The word “Chabad” is a Hebrew acronym for the three intellectual faculties: chochmah-wisdom, binah-comprehension and da’at-knowledge. Lubavitch means the “city of brotherly love”. The movement’s system of Jewish religious philosophy, the deepest dimension of G-d’s Torah, teaches understanding and recognition of the Creator, the role and purpose of creation, and the importance and unique mission of each creature. This philosophy guides a person to refine and govern his or her every act and feeling through wisdom, comprehension and knowledge.
The origins of today’s Chabad-Lubavitch organization can be traced to the early 1940s. Today 4,000 full-time emissary families direct more than 3,300 institutions (and a workforce that numbers in the tens of thousands) dedicated to the welfare of the Jewish people.

How Your Donation Helps

Help support Chabad of San Francisco with a vehicle donation. Chabad of San Francisco supports the Chabad-Lubavitch movement that supports 4,000 emissary families working and 3,300 institutions dedicated to the welfare of the Jewish people. Your car donation helps Chabad of San Francisco achieve the goals of their mission and continue contributing to the Jewish community in San Francisco and around the world.

Mission

To train and support community volunteers who advocate for abused or neglected children placed in foster care; upholding the children’s rights while pursuing a safe and permanent home.ORGANIZATIONAL VALUES
  • Children should feel safe and protected wherever they live.
  • Children deserve to be treated with respect and have their opinions validated.
  • Children in our communities are everyone’s responsibility.
  • Our society has developed and implements systems to remove children, who are victims of abuse or neglect, from their parents to ensure their safety and well-being. Therefore, as a society we must be responsible. As a society, we must not only expect the system to care for these children, but rather we must hold each other responsible, making sure that these same children’s safety, welfare and dignity are upheld in the process.
  • CASA is the organization designated to educate the community and be a spokesperson on issues of child maltreatment, always keeping the welfare of the child the priority.

How Your Donation Helps

CASA of Monterey County trains and supports community volunteers who advocate for abused or neglected children placed in foster care; upholding the children’s rights while pursuing a safe and permanent home.
When Child Protective Services determine circumstances warrant a child being removed from their parents for their own protection, the legal case comes before the Dependency Court and the child is placed in foster care.  Monterey County has approximately 320 children in foster care; they are children in crisis, highly at-risk and vulnerable.
While all children are assigned a social worker and attorney, over 200 of those children are also assigned to CASA due to their complicated circumstances which, per the Juvenile Dependency Judge, require additional help and guidance.
Advocacy is conducted in the context of permanency: finding lifelong support and connections for children and youth in the foster care system while ensuring the quality of life a child deserves.  Advocacy focuses on four primary activities: investigate the circumstances of the case; advocate for what is in the best interest of the child; facilitate services; and monitor compliance with court orders and progress towards permanency.

Mission

CALICO achieves justice and healing for abused children. We achieve justice by bringing together law-enforcement officers, child welfare workers, prosecutors, and other professionals to investigate abuse allegations and elicit testimony from children. We use a nationally proven method designed to attain accurate information while protecting the emotional needs of the victim. We promote healing for victims by coordinating the first and most crucial stages of recovery. Our skilled mental-health clinicians offer guidance, resources and support to help the entire family along the path to physical and mental health and well-being.

How Your Donation Helps

CALICO achieves justice and healing for abused children. Since 1997, CALICO, (the Child Abuse Listening, Interviewing and Coordination Center of Alameda County), has brought together police officers, child welfare workers, prosecutors and other professionals to respond collaboratively to child abuse allegations, hear children’s testimonies, and link children and families with vital therapeutic, medical and legal support services in the community. CALICO’s mission is to provide a supportive environment to interview children and facilitate a collaborative response to child abuse in which the needs of children take precedence.
Every $1,000 donated to CALICO provides a family in crisis with a comprehensive package of services.  These services include a quality forensic interview of an abused child by a specially trained professional in a safe environment; crisis intervention and emotional support for the child’s family; and follow up support and referrals for community-based services to help the child and family on the road to justice and healing.
CALICO improves the quality of life of abused children and families in several important ways:
  • First, CALICO stops the immediate violence for both the child interviewed and other children to whom the abuser has access.
  • Second, by coordinating the response of various agencies, CALICO reduces further trauma to the child that would result from being part of multiple investigations.
  • Third, by connecting abused children with therapeutic support, CALICO can break the inter-generational cycle of violence and help a child onto a path of healthy adulthood.
Each year, CALICO aids 600-700 children, adolescents and developmentally disabled adults, most of whom were sexually abused, and many of whom were physically hurt, neglected, exploited as prostitutes, and/or witnessed violence in their homes or communities.

Mission

CalTrout‘s mission is to protect and restore wild trout, native steelhead and the waters they inhabit throughout California, and to create high quality angling opportunities for the public to enjoy. Although great fishing has been restored, protected, or made possible by much of our work, CalTrout is not a fishing club or organization. Quality angling is an outcome of our primary focus: to improve the health of the state’s watersheds, rivers and lakes.

How Your Donation Helps

California Trout is headquartered in San Francisco with satellite offices in the Eastern Sierra, Mount Shasta, North Coast, Northern Sierra, and Southern California areas.
California Trout’s decisions and recommendations are not driven by popular opinion but by sound scientific rationale based on collaborative relationships with UC Davis, Stanford, UC Santa Barbara and University of Nevada Reno.
Strong collaborative relationships with local, regional and national partners help strengthen California Trout’s position and accomplish our goals.
With a decade-long history of regional conservation offices, CalTrout is intimately familiar with local issues and challenges, and thus is positioned to drive and implement well-founded solutions.
This approach enables California Trout to:
  • Advocate and drive federal, state and regional water and fish legislation and policy
  • Use existing law to monitor, implement and litigate, if necessary
  • Implement large-scale, regional fish habitat restoration projects
